Concrete Textures and Finishes

The surface texture is created when your concrete is laid and defines the overall colour, look and feel of your concrete.

There is a huge range of textures and finishes to choose from, and it is important that the texture chosen is appropriate for the environment i.e. non-slip for a pool surround, or smooth and easy to clean for a house floor. We will create the concrete surface, so it’s important that you let us know what texture and finish you want to achieve.

Exterior Finishes

Medium Trowel

A medium trowel finish is achieved by using a steel trowel to create a smooth and level surface with a slight texture. It provides a polished appearance while maintaining some grip.

Rough Trowel

A rough trowel finish involves using a steel trowel to intentionally create a textured surface. It results in a rougher and more slip-resistant finish, suitable for areas where traction is important, such as ramps or outdoor walkways

Light Broom

A light broom finish is achieved by running a broom over the concrete surface. It creates light texture and small grooves, offering improved slip resistance and a decorative look. It is commonly used for exterior surfaces like driveways and pool decks.

Heavy Broom

Similar to the light broom finish, a heavy broom finish involves using a broom to create deeper grooves and a more pronounced texture. This finish provides even greater slip resistance and is often used in areas with high foot traffic or slopes.

Light Exposed Aggregate

The light exposed finish is a concrete surface that has a smooth and refined appearance. It involves removing a thin layer from the top surface of the concrete, which reveals small aggregates like sand. These tiny particles create a subtle texture and add a touch of visual interest to the overall finish. The light aggregate exposed finish is ideal for achieving a polished and elegant look.

Medium Exposed Aggregate

The medium exposed finish is achieved by removing a slightly deeper layer of the concrete's surface, unveiling larger aggregates like gravel or small stones. The exposed aggregates provide a moderate texture to the concrete, creating a more pronounced visual impact compared to the light finish. This finish strikes a balance between smoothness and texture, offering a visually appealing surface with a touch of natural elements.

Heavy Exposed Aggregate

The heavy exposed finish involves removing a significant layer of the concrete's surface, exposing large stones or pebbles embedded within the material. This finish results in a rough and bold texture, making a strong visual statement. The exposed heavy aggregates create a rugged appearance, adding a distinctive and visually striking element to the concrete surface.
